IBCLC

WHAT IS AN IBCLC?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a healthcare professional who has obtained the highest level of training within the area of lactation. An IBCLC specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding and providing lactation support. IBCLC

WHY CHOOSE AN IBCLC?

An IBCLC performs comprehensive maternal, child and feeding assessments related to breastfeeding and human lactation. An oral assessment is performed by an IBCLC to identify if your baby may have an oral restriction. If a tongue tie is diagnosed by a physician, a personalized care plan will be developed to meet your breastfeeding goals. A tongue tie care plan includes: latch and positioning adjustments, suck training exercises,  and on-going follow up support.

HOLISTIC SLEEP COACH

WHAT IS A HOLISTIC SLEEP COACH?

Holistic Sleep Coaching is a family-centred approach to sleep. With a responsive approach, we believe it is crucial to honour the child’s developmental stage and have realistic expectations of sleep. I will also help you to understand biologically normal infant sleep. Night wakings are normal and protect the breastfeeding relationship. We provide you with gentle evidence-based strategies, which never involve leaving babies to cry alone.

Her very first opportunity to support moms & babies was at Westview Health Center with the Shared Care program- assisting moms and midwives with deliveries. She fell in love with the midwifery model of care and had midwifery care with all her babies (except the first, who decided to be breech, he was an elective c-section!) She worked at the Misercordia Hospital labour and delivery for approximately 10years. Now working at Westland Family Practice PCN in Spruce Grove. Melissa has 3 kids, 4 pets & lives on an acreage in Parkland County. She looks forward to supporting you with infant feeding, in anyway you want- bottle/breast/exclusive pumping…the list goes on.
